Some say divorce teaches children that love is unreliable...

I recently came across an article titled "Kids Are Resilient' and 7 Other Lies Divorcing Parents Should Stop Believing" by Debra Macleod and I immediately felt a sense of sadness followed by slight anger towards this author. Let me explain...

The following is a list of the '7 Lies Divorcing Parents Should Stop Believing' and why I believe that it is unfair for this author to pass blind judgement on parents by stating that if one believes any of these that he/she has 'given up on their marriage' and these are just 'excuses that parents use to feel better about breaking up their family'. Again, for each their own.

In a 'perfect world' every child would be born to an amazing, loving, strong, compatible, and stable two parent household that was financially, emotionally, socially, and psychologically well-prepared for parenting. Unfortunately, this is the real world. I continue to struggle with this decision and have faith that I am doing the 'right' thing.

1. My kids want me to be happy.

2. My kids will be better off.

3. My next marriage will be better.

4. My relationship with my children won’t change.

5. I won’t have any regrets.

6. We shouldn't stay together for the kids.

7. Divorce will solve my problems.

4 Incredibly Amazing Children's Resiliency Quotes

“Listen earnestly to anything [your children] want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.”  Catherine Wallace

“The way we talk to our children becomes their inner voice."

Treat a child as though he already is the person he's capable of becoming.”  Haim Ginott
